Limousin is the ideal location to discover the great outdoors with over 6.200 km (over 3.850 miles) of different hiking trails to suit all abilities’ and conveniently located right in the center of France.
In total there are nineteen stunning chateaus / ancient monuments 
these make up part of the 
Richard the Lion Heart Route; 
many of which can be found within the Haute Vienne area.

On your bike 

This 180 km long route follows the journey of Richard the Lion Heart; as he battles against the mighty King Philip of France, moving across many of the departments
 of Charente, Corrèze, Dordogne and Haute-Vienne. 

The Long Barn and Gîte.

The Long Barn is stunning, stone building situated only a short three minute drive from the center of Chalus and nestles in the small hamlet of Ballengeas. Surrounded by woods and fields you can easily take a morning stroll to the local boulangerie 
for your freshly baked croissants and baguettes. 

The gentle walk will take you past beautiful green woodland, fields that change with the season and a peaceful lake as you pass through the hamlet of Puy Gris. The Gite welcomes you with a shingle driveway which compliments the stone building there is ample space for parking; we can also give you access to the a secure area to lock up bikes should this be required. 

 The Gite will make an ideal 'home from home' whether you plan to be active or just rather chill and relax. 
Chalus situated in the department of the Haute Vienne (High Vienna), giving you endless opportunities to explore and take many superb walks and/or cycling routes. We have included in the site details of different routes to cater for all ages and abilities.  

Chalus is surrounded by national park and  lakes which offer many activities from water sports, fishing, horse riding, 
high ropes , mountain biking and karting. Chalus is steeped in history namely Richard the Lion Heart who met his match 
with Pierre and died here in 1199to Lawrence of Arabia who completed the 1908 Tour de France. 

The castle and monument are in walking distance from the Gite and the village center offers a number of local restaurants and bars to dine. Further afield but by no means far (ten minutes by car) you will find the exquisite and beautiful Chateaus: Montbrun , Brie and La Cars to name but a few. 

On entering the Gite you come into the open plan lounge and kitchen dining area, with its wooden floor throughout the lounge has a beautiful wood burning stove, opposite a simple retro clic clac sofa and two bucket chairs allow you to read and relax. 
The dining area with wooden table and chairs are adjacent to the galley kitchen, which comes complete with electric hob and oven, small fridge, and all the necessary cooking items, crockery and cutlery you may need. Please see Amenities for full listing.

The first floor comprises of an open plan bedroom and bathroom area, here you will find a toilet, walk in shower, heated towel rail and wash basin. The main bedroom has a double bed (140 x 200 cm) made from our reclaimed joists and the room has a beautiful ornate Romeo and Juliet balcony which over looks the terrace and surrounding fields. 
The bedroom has ample storage space for clothes and cases and as for those chilly evenings, the room offers a built in electric effect fire to keep you warm and snug. 

The main barn; still has many of its original features in place, from wooden beams and floor joists, to the cattle pens, 
feeding and water troughs which give you a brief insight to the Barns history. Part of this secure area can be used for any storage requests such as bikes.
